Product Description The JVC Kaboom is back! The new RV-NB50 Kaboom boasts 40 watts of power and retains the original's general design - a large cylindrical shape with a woofer at each end. Bass enhancement circuitry ensures room-rattling low frequency performance. Digital era upgrades include the iPod dock, which is shielded from the elements by a protective door, and USB Host for playback of music files stored on a USB mass storage device. In addition, there's a CD player that can handle MP3 and WMA file playback, and an FM tuner. For additional flexibility, there's a front audio input. A remote control makes it easy to operate while a shoulder strap makes it a cinch to carry.40W Total PowerDock for iPod with Twist Auto Lock DoorPlays CD, CD-R/RW, MP3/WMA (CD-R/RW, USB)FM Digital Tuner with 30 Presets3-3/16" (8cm) Full-Range SpeakersBack-Illuminated LCD (Blue)1-bit D/A ConverterUSB HostTwin 5-1/8" (13cm) Super Woofers with Level Controls4-Amp ConfigurationMP3/WMA Playback4 Preset Sound ModesProgram (30 Tracks)/Random/Repeat PlayFull-Function Remote ControlShoulder StrapHeadphone Jack on BackWorks with Batteries

One flaw... August 23, 2010 Graham Gott (Dover, Kent United Kingdom) Well impressed by mine but as another reviewer pointed out, there is no line-in. I bought an iPod to 3.5mm cable but the JVC does not switch on the amp if there is no iPod attached. So, unless you know how to get an iPod and the cable connected at the same time, then this is a non-starter.
I am currently looking for another way to pump my laptop through this incredible sound system.
Deep lows - flat high's. August 10, 2010 A. Kloster (San Diego, CA) Arrived quickly and as advertised. Produces deep bass, but FLAT high's. When listening outdoors this isn't much of an issue, as you don't notice it as much, but play it indoors and you'll long for an extra tweeter or two. At the beach I had more than a few people stop and inquire about the Kaboom. This radio does not have an AUX port - darn shame. You can work around this by getting an iPod to 3.5 cable though.
Pricey for a beach / barbecue radio, but the batteries have last longer than I expected and the sound ouput is impressive.
Caution!! August 4, 2010 Janice West (Stone Mountain, GA USA) Bought this unit and found out it is only compatabile with very limited (5) Apple IPod models and limited generations. This information is written on the instuction sheet INSIDE the box. The customer service person at JVC suggested the only solution was for me to purchase an older model IPod???!!?? REALLY??? We tried at least 6 different models of IPod and couldn't get any of them to read. Poor attitude on the customer service rep combined with the problem makes it a poor choice for anyone.
Sad Times for JVC Kaboom July 16, 2010 Big Fat Guy (Detroit, MI) This new JVC Kaboom is not an Urban Assault 52 watt. This is a large sized Kaboom at best. It's got most features from the early 2000's models but downsized to 40 watts and looks inferior to the Urban Assault.
It obviously has an iPod dock instead of a cassette player. Of course it also plays CD's and CD-R's/RW's. It doesn't get all that load and the downsized speakers really makes a huge difference and not for the better. The bass is not really there it just sounds like crap sometimes.
If you are looking for a large sized, new model boombox then JVC Kaboom is still probably the best one on the market today considering the alternatives. If you are looking to replace your early 2000's Kaboom or other system and it is still in good shape I can't say that I would want to spend this kind of money again.
Why did they have to take away the original 52 watt?
THUMBS UP JVC. July 12, 2010 JOHNIE T 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
